for Lateral Naval Architects

The Free From Bulkheads (FFB) Platform was a concept created by Lateral Naval Architects, exploring the possibilities of redesigning the technical backbone of a superyacht.

Lateral took their inspiration from a skateboard, where all the machinery is housed below the deck and everything above, unconstrained by technical parts.

The model was designed to show the internal space created in the living areas of a superyacht by removing the bulkheads on all the decks above the water. It was a paired back, white model, with a waterline depicted by an acrylic sheet that interlocked with the main superstructure. To add interest and context, details such as the machinery were modelled and housed below the waterline and people above showcased the vastness of the opened-up space.

The model was unveiled at MYS 2022.
